This is a view of the network of authors, recipients and people mentioned in the letters created by the metadata present in the corpus of Bodley’s correspondence as represented in the Diplomatic Correspondence online edition. Note that Bodley is at the centre of the network (this is to be expected, as he is the hub of the correspondence, and one of the criteria of selection for the edition was that all letters be incoming or outgoing). One immediate and visible conclusion from this visualization is the concentration of correspondence between Bodley and Sir William Cecil, Lord Burghley. The thickness of the lines denotes frequency of correspondence, therefore it is easy to distinguish the heavy traffic of Bodley’s and Burghley’s discussions of people in the central cluster of the visualization.
