How did Boyle use them?Boyle used the workdiaries as a source for his writings on various topics, in which he sometimes makes reference to them (for example, see Hunter and Davis (1999-2000), x, pp. 127, 135, and 146-7). He also collected information relevant to treatises that he had already published, and entries are sometimes endorsed to this effect. In addition, he clearly intended to sort the material and to store it for future reference in the form of a compilation called Paralipomena (see Hunter and Littleton (2001), pp. 381-2). |
