Biography:

Anna-Lujz Gilbert joined CELL in 2022 as a post-doctoral research fellow on the project Shaping Scholarship, which examines donations to the Bodleian Library c. 1600–1620. Before moving to UCL, Anna carried out her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Exeter and also spent time working in heritage for the National Trust and Devon Archives. Her PhD, ‘Public Books in Provincial Towns’, used understudied ‘parish’ library collections to uncover cultures of donation, book collecting, and book use in early modern Devon. This research sparked interests in both provincial book cultures and the widespread movements of library provision which flourished in early modern England.
