Iune. 3. 1663. mr Hooke was elected a Fellow of the Society by the councell and exempt from
all charges.
Iune 17. 1663. orderd that the secretary desire mr Hooke to speak wth some honest workmen skilld in
such workmanship &As is that of the Compressing Engine for the better clearing the founders bill con
cerning the same . Iuly. 6. 63. ord that mr H. and the Operator take care to prepare the compressing
engine that it may not faill in trying expts therein. Ditto about microscopicall pictures glasse balls &
barometer & hygroscope Oct. 5. 63. mr Hook orderd to be present the next meeting .
oct. 12. 63 mr. H was present according to last order -
Hook mr H. to prepare the Expt. that stand vpon his account. 2 D wrens thermometer Receued 3 artificiall eye. 4
picture on a wall by glasses. 5 powder trying engine 6 hygroscope
oct 19. orderd that mr Hook haue the keeping of the Repository of the Society for wch. the west gallery in Gresham
colledge is appointed. Item. orderd that one of the new Instruments for sounding wthout a line be by
mr Hook made ready among other things for his majtys. Reception          nou. 16. 1663.
mr Hills Inuentory drawn out of the treasurers bills was to l concerning things belonging to the society was
deliuerd to RH as keeper of the Repository
nou 23. 1663. mr. H. produced a module of a new way of carrying wth one horse after the fashion of a -
wheelbarrow devised by himself. and vpon some debate It was orderd he should further consider of it
against the next meeting of the councell. -
Dec. 7. 1663. the motion of prouiding expts. for his majestys Reception being renewed and considerati
on being had to appoint a person for the Carefull preparing thereof It was voted that mr
Hooke should be Inuited to Lodge in Gresham Colledge 4 dayes in a week vizt mund. Tuesd
wensd & thursd. and tht a conuenient Lodging should be prouided for him & he allowd 20
shill p'week for that time. mr. H was called in therevpon & this proposition being made him
he accepted thereof. Orderd that mr. H. attend the councell euery munday to giue them
an account of the successe of Expts. to be prepared for his Majtys. entertainment.
Dec. 14. 63. orderd that mr H shew the compressing engine to some Intelligent & honest workman & in
quire what It may be well worth and being in a report at the next meeting of the Councell
Dec 21. mr H. made a report that he had spoken wth. a good workman about the compressing Engine
who thought it was the first workmanship of this kind might Deserue 40ll. more than what
had been already payd for it by the councell.
Ian. 6. 63. mr. H was desired to take care that the Instrumt for the measure of time consisting of one
oly wheel wth hollow cameras in it mouing either wth. sand or water for a good space of time
be made.
Ian. 13. the Pret acquainting the Councell that mr H had Discouerd to himself Sr. R moray & Dr wilkins
an Inuention which might proue very beneficiall to England & to the world and that he had a good Opi
nion thereof But that it was necessary some expts. should be made for further certainty be =
fore it was made publique which would require some charges not soe fitt to be putt vpon
the Inuentor It was orderd tht the Pt. Sr. R moray & Dr. wilkins haue power to Employ any
summe vnder 10ll of the societys money for the said purpose
Feb. 10th. 63. mr. H being called in and desired to suggest some Expts. that might be acceptable &
vsefull to the Publique suggested that the expt. of Land carriage and a speedy conueying
of Intelligence might be considerd of
Feb. 17. 63. orderd that mr H set down in writing & produce before the councell his wh[ole]
apparatus & management for speedy intelligence.
march 23. 63. mr. H. was orderd to expedite his engine wth one wheel for A speedy carr [. . . . . .]
as also his circular howrglasse wth seuerall cells therein likewise the pictures on [. . . . . .]
in a light Room : Also orderd that mr. H produce at euery meeting of the socie[ty]
of his microscopicall Discourses in Reference to be printed by order of the Society
Ap.27. orderd that mr H. direct the making of the two wheeld engine and the Instrument for
glasses & bring in a Description of the Instrument to make wheels for watches & clocks -
Iune 8. 64. The validity of Dr. Dacres Election into the Geometry professors place at Gresham Colle[ge]
being questioned vpon Information giuen that the Ld mayor of London was none of the Comtee. who yet by his pr. . . . .
had carried the Election by a casting vote. It was orderd that Dr. wilkins mr Palmer mr colwall be desired
to consult mr Ellis about this Business how it may be redresst to doe Iustice to mr Hook who had 5 v[otes]
whereas Dr. D. had but 4 without that of the Ld mayor and that in order to this redresse they should well
Informe themselues whether the Ld mayor was nominated one of the Comtee. or Els whether he was
authorised by custome to be always of euery if he please to be soe
