mr Hooke produced Dr Godderds petrifyed wood being cutt smooth & hauing a polish wch
being viewed by him in a microscope in its closest part did still appear porous he
was desired to cause the same stony wood to be cutt sidewise as also to bring in his
obseruations vpon it
mr Hooke brough in his obseruation of a male gnat. He was charged to bring in
writing the expt. of air exhausted out of water & relapsing into it againe
Iune 3d. 1663. the expt. of raising water in a kind of small weather glasse, by the pressing
in of air in the condensing engine, was tryed but by Reason of the engines Leaking
proued Imperfect to be Repeated next Day. mr. Hook was orderd to bring in -
writing his obseruations vpon Dr. Godderd Petrifyd wood against next Day.
The same to obserue by . . . microscope whether there be any cauity in sage Leaues
for Little spiders to Lodg in. [Dr. Pell wheat in Zurick kept in granarys in the Husk 80 years.
Iune. 10. the Expt. was begun to be made to know whether the substance of those bubbles that
are obserued to float at the top of the water in two bolt heads after the water hath
been wel exhausted out of a Receiuer and been Readmitted into the same be reall
air or but rarefyed parts of that water, And there was put into the place of the
bubble remaining in one of the bolt heads included into the same Receiuer, as
much air to see at the next meeting whether the one as well as the other -.
return into the pores of the water or not. The Expt. of killing a mouse
in the condensing engine succeeded not because the vessell was not stanch
mr. Hooke gaue an account of his hauing looked on sage Leaues with a microscope
to see whether in the cauitys thereof any Little spiders did but lurke, & he said
to haue seen none. mr. Hooks written obseruations vpon Dr. Godderds peice of
Petrifyed wood were appointed to be read next meeting . [monconys. sorbier. 1 more to
Iune 17. In the expt. of Exhausting air out of water which returneth into the pores of
the water againe : It was found that the air which at the former meeting was
put into the place of the Bubble remaining in one of the bolt heads was
relapsed into the pores of the water as well as the bubble Left in the other
bolt head. It being suggested that the bubbles floating in the boltheads after the
drawing out of the air of the Receiuer might be reall air got in at the pouring
in of the water, and Lurking between the water & the sides of the glasses
and that such a parcell of air thus crowded in might vpon the readmission of
the air, and the reascention of the water be drawen vp before it to the top:
for the cleering of this the operator was made commanded to make the same expt. in
glasses of Differing bignesse to see whether the . . . bubbles remaine in proportion
to the quantity of water or to the surface of the glasse.
mr Hookes obseruations vpon Dr. Godderds peice of Petrifyd wood were read & orderd
to be entred. the same was desired to continue his obseruations by a
microscope vpon sage Leaues. he hauing at some time seen nothing like Little
spiders in the cauitys thereof at other times abundance of small a kind of
Little Eggs vpon the said Leaues.

for more obseruations of the Like nature. _____________________ mr Hooke was desired
to look vpon some of the [viper] powder through a microscope . . [Cap Grant. 3 carps

Iuly. 1. 1663. mor. Zulichem expt. of Purging water from air to see whether it will subside according to
the torricellian Expt . was made but succeeded not. It was orderd to be made againe next
Day. mr. Hookes Expt. for . . . /finding/ whether the bubbles /that/ rise out of the water vpon the emptying a
Receiuer of air are reall air or but Rarifyed parts of water was orderd to be repeated next Day.
