Iuly. 1. 1663. mr. Hooke gaue an account that he had looked vpon with a microscope vpon
the viper powder kept by mr Pellin but found nothing aliue in it. he was orderd to conti
nue his obseruation vpon sage Leaues.
Dr. wilkins mentiond that Dr. crone in the blood of a dog he had dissected had found abundance of
Little Insects. mr Hooke was desired to take notice thereof and to make frequent obseruations
wth. a microscope of the blood of seuerall animalls.
Sr. R moray presented the company wth the measure of a Gyant child of 22 monthes old and of all
the Parts thereof as also of a very great herring . mr Hooke was desired to measure the said
parts and the herring by a scale & to giue it in writing.
Iuly. 8. mr Hooke brough in 3 microscopicall expts. Obseruations . of the edge of a Razor
of a peice of fine taffata Ribband, and of one of the millepides. - The same was orderd
to giue in writing the two expts. Lately made concerning the bubbles remaining on the
top of the water in the glasse balls vpon the emptying a Receiuer, and the not sub
siding of the water freed from air.
Iuly. 15. mr Hooke brought in an account in writing of the two expts. tryd before the
society.one concerning the vniting & mixing of air and water. the other touching the
suspension of Defecated water in a bolt head after the Receiuer had been well ex
hausted. they were orderd to be entred. the operr. was appointed to prouide against next
Day a longer tube of 5 or 6 foot Long to repeat the Later of these two expts.
[Dr Pells melting sand of East Born in Sussex. from mr nich Gildredge.
mr Hooke produced these 3 microscopicall Obseruations 1 of fine Lawn 2 of a very smooth &
guilt edge of fine vinece paper . 3 of a tinea argentea . [S W Pettys new ship]. the Torricellian
expt. was made wth. water in a glasse cane 40 foot Long]
Iuly. 22. mr. Hook mentioning that a better way might be suggested to make the
Expts. aforesaid was desired to think further vpon it and to bring in an account
thereof at the next meeting [vizt about the sounding balls & Buckett.]
mr Hooke was orderd to make a Iourney to chersey vpon the charges of the society and
to obserue the said spring and to obser informe himself of all circumstances concer
ning the same as also to Distill some of it [the Red oyle at the top of a pond in chersey]
Dr. clark & mr Hook were desired to make a Iourney to Barnet for a mor particular account
of this matter [vizt wormes in barnet water] P Ruperts strong powder.]
Prince Ruperts water raysing engine after the way of Cauallerius was orderd to be tryed
and a Description of the structure thereof was giuen in by mr Hooke which was orderd to
be entred.
Iuly. 29. mr Hooke produced seuerall figures both for sounding instruments wthout a Line
and for vessells to fetch vp water from the bottom of the sea he had the thanks of the company
and was desired to giue an explanation of the said figures in writing and the operator was
orderd to make two modules against the next Day one of the sounding instrument and
another of the water drawing instrument vessell, each after the draught of the first figure
of the /each/ kind. -
mr Hooke was orderd to apply mr Boyles engine to the Long tube for the torricellian expt. to see
whether all the air could be there exhausted & whether therevpon the water would there
subside at all. - mr Hook was put in minde of the Iourney for seeing the spring
neer Chersey as also to Assist Dr. Charlton for drawing a scheme of the carp or salmon
which he is to dissect to shew the Duct from the fishes bladder to the Gills.
expts. for the next Day were orderd. 1 the Continuation of the torricellian expt. in Long tubes
2 that of mr. Zulichem to keep the water suspended after the exsuction of the air. 3 some expt
or other in the compressing Engin .
Aug. 5. Dr. Faircloth was desired to produce this [large bezoar] stone againe at next meeting that it may
be looked vpon wth. a microscope and which mr Hook was orderd to bring wth him for that purpose
mr Hooke produced these 3 microscopicall obseruations 1 the honicomb seaweed. 2 of the teeth of a
snaile. 3 of Rose Leaues hauing at this season of the year when they are withering a certaine
plant growing on their backsides .-
Sr R moray produced againe the stones taken out of the Lord Belcarris heart and desired that the figures
thereof might be drawn. Dr. wilkins moued that the same might be taken in Plaister both was com
mitted to mr Hooke. - mr Hook was appointed to think of a way to determine the stength of Powder
by weight
