nou: 23. 1664 RH was by Dr. wilkins proposd Curator by office to the Society, and the
President acquainted the Company that the Councell had found it necessary to
haue a curator and that they would allow him pro tempore 30ll a year the pre
sent Reuenue of the Society not being able to bear a greater allowance.
And that mr Hooke was contented wth. that sum for the Present . Sr I Cutler
hauing setled vpon him During his life 50ll per annum vpon the acc
count of Reading Lectures of Experimentall Philosophy which additio[n]
had made him willing to accept pro tempore of 30ll pounds a year
from the society for Performing the office of Curator. -
The society voted he should be dispensed wth. as to his visitation of the Counse
RH mentiond a way of finding a 2d minute by a telescope he was orderd to
put it in Practise. and to make an other Dissection of a Viper -
December. 7. 1664 Zulichems Expts. about Pendulums lengths tryd. RH gaue an account
of Expts. of Refraction. expts to be made by RH. 1 a standerd of cold by freezing distilld
water. 2 try the attraction of a frozen Loadstone. 3 to try a lens of ice wthout blebbs to
to burne wth. 4 to freeze exhausted water. and to make a scheme of his Instrument
for measuring Refractions. and of his instrument for Discouering a 2d minute by the stars
& to try Zulichems thermometer. wch. was tryd next Day. Dec 14. Zulichems
proportion of the Length of Pendules found not true RH sugg: to try it wth short pendule
and gaue an account of his tryalls on that Subject at the Ld Brounkers. RH produced
his schem for coelestiall refractions. enterd. Dec: 21. mr. Palmers hardend mercury
RH orderd to shew pear coloured glasse. tryd the wooden circular pendulums hung by the Edge
orderd to try further expts. on Pendules for the standerd. & to make a short pendule
Dec: 28. more expt. made wth. circular weighted Pendules. RH brough in his obseruation
of the Comet in writing. he concluded this the same tht appeard last week. that it seemd a body dissolud in aether
the Dissolud parts ascending from its body opposite to the sun or grauittating center of Planetary systeme
as smoke of cole from earths center. shewd a schem how to solue the Phenom. by earths motion & a little
of comets motion westward
Ian: 4. 1664/5 Shewd his way of applying thermometer to weatherclock. RH. orderd to prepare standerd
for cold. RH made an Expt. to shew the air a vniuersall menstrum of Sulphureous bodys & that
this Dissolution is fire, that this was done by a nitrous substance & mixt wth Air - he she[wed]
Expt. of extinguishing only satiated air. combustible substances kept Red hot wthout air
would not consume. mr. willoughby Related company obseruation of spot in Iupiters belt. RH
affirmd tht in may 19. 1664 he had seen at 9 at night a small spot in the biggest of the 3 black belts
of Iupiter & that obseruing it from time to time he found that wthin two howres after
the said spot had moued from east to west about half the Length of the Diameter

Albemarl fellow. RH made 3 expts. of Fire to confirm his hypothesis. 1 wth. sulphur seald
vp in a pipe . 2d wth charcole in a pipe . 3 wth a charcole in a crucible of sand
he remoued objections by asserting extinction by exhaustion proposd his Bellows box
RH was elected curator by office to the society & that for perpetuity wth. a salary
of 30ll p'annu pro tempore. sr. R moray Related Cap: Holmes obseruations of the
pendule watches at Guiney. tht. sayling from cape corso in Guiney westwards 500 or 600
Leagues he steerd N E 4 or 500 leagues. then consulting pilots twas founds one guessd 80 L a 2d. 100
a 3d 120. more eastward then Holmes. who by the. watches found himself 30 Leagues from the Isle del /fuego/ . . .
of cape verd. and by following his own direction found it soe next Day.
