This being donethe RH. shewd He his second Expt. to wit /A great/ of the multitude
very small animalls in Pepper water which ^/being putt into small glasse pipes not bigger than a piggs brisle and viewd/ appeard by the help of the A mi
croscope wch. he had fitted for that purpose ^/very much improued since the last Day appeard very plainly//to moue to & fro in it in great numbers/ this was done in order to examime
the relation wch. mr .. . . /mr/ Lewenhook had sent to this Society of the Discouery
he had made of that surprising phenomenon. And It was very euidently seen by the
greatest part of those present that there were in the Raine water in which whole
Black pepper had been seuerall Days steeped, great numbers of exceedingly small Ins
swimming to and fro& This water ^/being/ put into very slender pipes not bigger than a piggs Bristle
& that they were seuerall of them bigger then the Day before. Some suppoed they saw Leggs or
finns, but others could not Discerne them. The same also shewd that there were some such kinds
of Insects in the steepings of wheat berly oats anisseeds. peas, beans, &c but that they Differd from the
former in shape and motion, seuerall others hauing a verticiuous motion as it were round a center
.. . . magnifycation of these objects by this microscopy

mr. Hooke promised that he would at the against the .. . . next meeting yet further im=
proue the microscope and to aduance doubted not to aduance the same as much beyond
the common microscopes yet vsed as they are /now/ beyond the naked eye. that he had for
merly Long since Discouerd a method to that purpose but that by reason of a weaknesse in
his eyes he had forborne to prosecute the the same. that he had many years since .. . .
shewd the same to this society ....... ^/and had described the same at Large in the present of his micrographia in the 20th. page from the beginning/. He was desired to prosecute that ruder
taking wth. wt expedition he could.
