This databased catalogue of William Dugdale’s correspondence includes over a thousand letters either to or from Dugdale, a seventeenth-century historian and herald, and served as the basis of the biography William Dugdale: A Life of the Warwickshire Historian and Herald by CELL's Technical Director Emeritus Jan Broadway.

Accounts of Dugdale's life have in the past drawn heavily on his autobiography, which Jan in her previous work has shown to be misleading in many respects. An edition of Dugdale's correspondence was published by William Hamper in 1827 along with his Life and Diary, but this includes only a couple of hundred letters. William Dugdale: A Life of the Warwickshire Historian and Herald, available for purchase online, is based on Dugdale's surviving correspondence and his other copious archival remains. In preparation for writing Dugdale's biography, Jan created this catalogue of his correspondence.
