by the said engine & mr. Hooke was appointed to make the expt. of Mor
Zulichem of the not subsiding of such water according to the Torricel
lian Expt. against the next Day. -
The Expt. of Exhausting the air from a fish in water was tryed in the
engine whereby the fish which was a tench was put into much Dis
order and boyed vp to the vpper part of the water when he would sink
his eyes also swelling & standing out. the operator was orderd to ob
serue the fish and how long she would liue after the exhausting
of the air. the Expt. to be tryd again next Day together with that
of the celerity of falling bodys in a glasse exhausted of air. -
(A tench shut vp in a glasse wth. Lime liued 14 or 15 howres.)
major Homes Receiud a coppy of Directions for seamen by the hands of the Operator
& mr Hooke was desired appointed to waite on the said Major and to Direct him
in the vse of the said Balls and Leads for sounding wthout a Line. and of the
cylindricall Vessell for fetching vp water from the bottom of the sea.
mr. Hooke was charged to bring in at euery meeting of the society one mi
croscopicall obseruation at the Least.
mr. Hookes paper concerning the Chinois cart wth one wheel mentio

to be like a wheel barrow and orderd to be filed vp. -
Dr. wilkins made mention of a certaine Instrument like an vmbrel
=la to be vsed in steed of an anchor in fathom lesse seas to stay a ship
in a storm as vpon other occasions. -
April 8. 1663. mr. Hooke shewd the company the appearance of comon
mosse in a microscope. he was desired to continue. and against next Day
to haue ready the microscopicall appearance of the Little fishes in Vineger
mr Hooke was orderd for next meeting to make the 2 expts. of water purged of
air and of the Descent of Bodys in an exhausted Receiuer. -
15. mr. Hooke shewed the company 2 microscopicall schemes one Representing
the pores of cork cut both transvers & perpendicular. the other a ^ /kettering/ kettle
=ring stone appearing to be composed of Globuls. and those hollow ones
each hauing 3 coats sticking to one another and soe making vp one
entire firm stone. he was desired to obserue the bark of other trees ^ /besides cork/
and to write down all what he obserued about these & the like appear
ances. As also to bring in against next Day the Representation of the
Little fishes swimming in vineger. -
mr Hooke appointed to continue the obseruations of the satellites
of . as he hath opportunitys. And Dr. Pope to desire the Bisp of Exeter
to comunicate those papers of mr. Rooke wherein the said obseruations
are stated. Occasion being giuen to Discourse of the star discouerd by Dr. Palmer armi
nister. Sr. R moray moved that a suruey might be made of the starrs of the Zodiack by the best telescopes
for the Discouery of new starrs. and the Rectifying of the places of starrs already known. for which pur
pose Sr. R moray offerd himself to take his share. mr. Ball vndertooke the suruey of a whole signa &
mr Hooke of as much as he Could.
