This being        the society met not

Sr. Christopher Wren viceprest. tooke the chair

The minutes of December. 18 Last were read, wherein mention
being made of the Present of Sr. Rob: Southwell of Signr.
Vivianj booke to the Societys Library mr. Hunt was orderd to waite vpo
Sr. Robert for it.
mr Hunt brought in the Globe presented by mr Moxon fitted wth a
case to stand ^/always/ in the Room where the society shall meet.

mr. Hooke read another Letter of his to mr. newton conteining some
further account of his theory of circular motion. and attraction
as also seuerall obseruations and deduction from that theory. as first
that Pendulum Clocks must vary their velocity in Seuerall climates
and .... that they could not give /2ly/ that this variation must also
happen at Different heights in the same climate, which last he
confirmed by an obseruation of mr Haly at St. Helena. and 3ly
as a consequent of these that a pendulum was vnfit for a vn
vniversall standard of measure -

mr. Pappin being by at the reading of this Letter related that a person
Imployd by the Royall Academy at Paris to try Pendulum Clocks in
Places neer the Line found them to goe much too slow. and that the
said Accademy Doubted the truth of the fact but supposed he had
been some way mistaken though he wth much confidence affirmed the
matter of fact to be true but knew noe reason for it.
mr Hooke also Read a Letter of mr Ball giuing an account of his -
thoughts concerning the hypothesis of mor. Mallement.
Mr. Tison Read the first part of his obseruations made vpon the Dissection of
the Porpisse. he was thanked for the great Paines and care he had ta
ken therein, and the Remaining Part it being Long & the time much
spent till another meeting. And it was orderd that his account should
be Enterd in the Register.
mr. Hooke shewd an Expt. Desired to be seen the Last Day. vizt. the putting of
camphire into aqua fortis whereby that Gum is presently conuerted into
an oyle and Swims in that forme vpon the aqua fortis.
