A Letter from Mr. Heuelius to Dr. Grew Dated from
      was read wherein was


Dr. Grew was desird to make inquiry concerning the state of the account of the
bookes of mr. Heuelius Left in the Hands of mr. Oldenburghs administratrix and to giue
the Society an account thereof the next thursday. as also.

A Letter from Iacobus Pighius Dated from Padua march 10th. 1678. directed to
mr Hooke was read wherein he expressd the great Respect he had for the Royall Society
and the Great Desire he had of being known to them. he metiond also his Great Loue
for the English in generall, & the kindnesse of the English Students at Padua had returnd
him in chusing him their      for this present year

order was giuen that Answers to each of those correspondents should be prepard against the
next Day by the secretarys and that care should be taken to giue a breif account
of each Letter in the Iournall Booke as had been done to the notes of the 20th. of
Iune Last.

Then the notes of Iune 27. were read which Gaue an occasion of Discoursing
further concerning plants Growing in glasses filld wth. water -

Dr. Croon supposed that plants would grow in such glasses though they had noe
air : being . . . vizt though the ambient air were exhausted
. . . mr. Hooke supposed that noe plant whatsoeuer would grow in vacuo. how
soeuer orderd: and further that they would not grow /very/ Long in a glasse perfectly
Stopd, though it conteind both water & air prouided it had noe comunication
wth. the outward air to Refresh & Renew the air. that a plant would be
