Feb: 23. 1685/6. Extracted out of the Second Iournall Booke of the RS. Vol.2.
It Begins Nouembr: 18. 1663. mr. Palmers Gun giuen account of Glasse cane of 40 foot Long. brought in.
mr. Hooke shewd the company his module for the whale shooting engine some objections being made
concerning it. It was orderd that Dr. wilkins. Dr. wallis. mr Hooke should meet together to consider
further of it. The same was also put in mind to bring in the next day, his addition to prince
Rupert instrument of perspectiue & to make a full description thereof. The same was orderd
to make a pastbord module of his Engine wth one wheel to trauell in wth ease & speed.
and to shew it to the councell at their next meeting. as also to prepare a module
of his other Engine to trauell in ouer Land & water /by/ walking in it after the fashio
of the wheel of a Crane.      Pr. Ruperts powder tryer. Bolognia stone.

Nou:25.-63. mr. Hooke brought in an account concerning his Additions to Pr:
Ruperts perspectiue Engine It was orderd that such an engine should be made
for the vse of the Society.
mr. Hooke acquainted the company that he had alterd his thoughts about the whale
killing Engine. conceiuing now that a crossbow of whalebones might be soe contriued
as to perform that execution well. wherevpon some of the company objecting that
whalebones would by the water loose their spring, it was sayd that good vernice
would secure the spring, others suggested that a bow of steel tinnd ouer would
doe well especially if seuerall steel springs were put together. mr. Hooke was
desired to consider further hereof. - Letter from Island Bishop .-

The Amanuensis was appointed to make a coppy of the Inquirys formerly -
drawn vp by mr. Hooke & sent into Island, to the end that they might be Consi
derd of & fitted by the President to be sent & Recommended to the said Bishop, as
a Person conceiud to be curious enough to return a proper answer therevnto.

mr. Hooke produced his engine for determing the force of powder by weight
But it being found imperfect by reason of the non continuance of the first im
puls, he offerd to compleat it by the addition of a rammer.
- Prince Rupert Powder. past through 4 boords & stuck in the 5th. but English shot through
three boords & stuck in the 4th. -    mr. Henshaws Bolognia stone.
mr. Boyle destroying shining of fish by oyle of vitriall. - Spurr in Cocks head.
Sr. R moray about Pr: Ruperts way of Blowing vp rocks in mines wth powder, described
mr. Hook shewd the company a microscopicall obseruation of a silk womes egge.

Dec. 2. 1663. Dr. wrens scheme of his weather clock by Dr. wren.
mr. Hooke told the company that he had bespoken of mr. Thomson to make P. Ruperts
perspectiue Instrument togther wth. his additions -
mr. Boyle queryd whether Ice could not Receiue a greater degree of cold.
Tryalls wth. prince Ruperts powder & powder tryall with ferrules & wthout. Referd to the
Ld Brounker. the Princes powder stronger than common powder as 11. to 1.
Powder sent to the Indies lost it power. Operator to make the little Instrument of P Rupert for
making screws wth. speed. the same was appointed to make expts. in mr. Hooks new powder
engine by himself. . . . then to doe it before the Society at their next meeting. -
