mr. Hooke read a Letter which he had lately Recieued from mor.
Leibnitz conteining seuerall Ingenious coniectures about the
vse of a vniuersall Language and character, and as also
of a vniuersall Algebra and the Great benefit thereof
affirming also that by the help thereof he had been
able to performe very many considerable things wch
the comonly known algebra would noe way enable
him to Doe, &c.

mr. Hooke was desired to continue his correspondence
wth. the said Mr. Leibnitz and to preuaile wth. him
soe for as to procure from him if possible some Instance
of or specimen of these his new problems soe far

mr. Hooke also produced a Letter wch he had newly Receiued, fro
mr. Iustell in France Paris. Dated Ian: 1. 1680. wherein
he giues the reason why he cannot yet send the Description
of a small Printing Engine newly Inuented
as also why he can't yet send the account of the voyage
from Mosco to china, but that one mr. Theatin has trans
lated it into french out of e muscouitish into french &
is now printing it. That mr. Picart was now printing
this voyage & obseruations in Denmark montpelier
Burdeaux & brest to wch he Ioynes his account of the
measur of e earth, that mor. Romer was returned to copenhagen
That mor. Mariot was printing a book of colours. that the comet had
been obserued but 3 times in Paris. That Cassinj affirmes Iust
such a Comet had appeard 300 years since. That mor. Vernay
had not yet shewn his obseruations made at Burdeaux but
that he had not met wth. any whale. but wt he had done
was designed by mor. delattin wth Great Curiosity, that one that . . . Prints
the Paris new almanack had therein giuen an account of the same
in wch are also the Longitude & Latitude of places as corrected
by ^ /late/ obseruation. That mor. Chamais is busyed much in making obser
uation of the magnet. That Kunkell had Left Saxony & was gone for Poland.
