vpon this occasion mention being made of the shining of Diamants -
mr. Henshaw Related that twas conceiued that the shining of that Dia
=mant (in wch. this Propriety was first obserued) was coniectured to
proceed from the manner of its setting in the Ring, and though it
were very ill sett as to appearance whilst it was in his possession
yet after the King had bought it of him for 20ll the Iewellers Durst not
new sett it for fear of spoyling that shining Quality.
mr. Haughton proposed 3 persons for Candidates of this Society
vizt. Mr.

An experiment was tryed to examine the electricity of Glasse after
mr. Newtons way by Rubbing on side of a Glasse to make the other
Electricall, but It was found that though at first It did succeed
two or 3 times yet after wards for what Reason could not be
found it Did not succeed, soe that the Experiments Designed to
be made further wth it could not be tryed, which was to examine
whether the air were of any . . vse for performing this opera
tion, or whether the air being exhauster from one side of the Glasse
the same effect would not be produced on the bodys placed neer
it.     It was therefore orderd to be prepared wth thinner
glasses against the next meeting that soe the Experiment might
be more certainly made, for that it was ghessed that the vncertain
ty of its operation proceeded from the thicknese of the Glasse wch
was Rubbed.

Mr. Boyles Booke of the Noctiluca presented the Last Thurs
day was now produced and Some parts thereof were Read
and Discoursed of And thanks were ordered to be Re
turned to him for his present. +
