Sr. Ioseph Williamson In the chair.

Dr. Heusch & Mr. Hauton subscribed and were admitted by the President
Mr Perkins also was chosen by the Ballot subscribed & was admitted

The minutes of Ian: 29 were Read, and seuerall matters were Discoursed
about the melting of metalls. Mr. Henshaw Related that Sulphur was
very Destructiue to most metalls as that it would melt Iron and make it
Drop. that it would calcine Siluer soe as to make it hard to be reduced.

The method of making experiments was also further Discoursed that
they should be made in order to proue a theory propounded but
Sr. Willm: Petty was of opinion they would be more faithfully
made & Deliuerd if they were not made to help out a theory
because that might preposesse & Biasse the experimenter

Mr. Hook gaue an account of some other qualitys he had taken
notice of in the mixture of tin & copper. As first that the co=
lour of the copper was quite destroyd it appearing much of the co=
lour of Iron when polished. 2ly. that the composition which was
made of two very malleable metalls when mixt became very fri
able & brittle. 3ly. that It bore a pretty good polish and Reflectio
4ly. that though copper was exceeding hard to be melted yet this mixture
melted very easily. 5ly. that viewing the polisht surface of it wth
a glasse he found it very full of very small holes or blebbs in the
metall.

Sr. Theodore De vaux was Desired to bring in such papers as he should
think fitt and order should be taken to haue them fairly Coppied
out into a book by them selues in order to be pervsed & that
then the Papers should be safely Deliuerd back to him
againe.

Then being a Discourse about the necessity of hauing some conueniences for
making the Expts. of mixtures of mettalls. Mr. Henshaw was pleasd
to promise the Guift of a small pair of smiths bellows which he had
by him:
The experiment of the mixture of tin & Copper was Desired to be
made the next Day.

Signr. Viuianj Booke presented by the Authour to the Society was
sent in from Sr. R Southwell. Dr. Gale was Desired to send the
Societys Thanks to the Authour, as also to take care about sending
the Societys thanks to the Grand Duke for the booke of the Torpedo
Mr. Hooke Read An account of the Expt. that was made on munday last
by Mr Hill, Dr. Croone & Mr Hooke which was orderd to be enterd into the Register.
