[fol. 63r] I was in my waye, mi R honorable good L. yesternight, when I mett with yow beyond Lambethe, to have waytted uppon yow att the Cowrtt, for matter that conserned her majesties service, & partlye your L. yf ye vowchesave to here me. On mondaye laste, I determined to have proceded in mi pretended jorny to wales, butt that the frydaye beffore, Master Smithe the customer, advised me to staye, till the Recevor of Sowthwales, were retorned, to knowe whatt he had don for me there, who is now com, & brynges suche worde, as I most nedes repayre presentlye thither./

In the mene tyme, I have Receved from sir Edward Herbert, a very dutifull acknowleging, of the favor ye vowchesaved towardes hym [ deleted: att] for [ Marginalia (by Herle): your honorable mediatyon to be had for ] the pryckyng of an yndifferent sheryff in Mongomerye shire, suche as shall nott prejudice his right nor credite, by any partialitye duryng the yere he serves in, affirmeng that he had presently com up hym sellf, yf he had nott byn lett by sycknes, butt he menes uppon his first recoverye, nott onlye to waytt uppon yow, with his harty thancks butt to make it appere whatt nerer dutye he beres your L. for the honorable speche, that I lett hym understand ye used of hym, with your good enclynatyon allso, that ye wolld he did well.

Your L. hath a former note of myne, that John wyn owen vaghan, ys the partye, agaynst whom he hath very Lawfull exceptyons for pryvate sutes that be bettwen theme, as otherwise for the corruptyon of the man, which makes hym unworthi of a publyck office./

Griffith lloyd is comended to your L. by hym, for an honest & lerned person yn the retorne, to be preffered to the other, so yow lyke of his judgement, butt trulye sir Edward Herberts credite: deppends muche of your L. favor in this electyon & he doth syncerelye mene to deppend of yow [ ... ] as his onlye frend ^& good L.^ whiles he lyves from hence furth, And herof I am hable to give yow som partyculer testymonye to the contentment which is the discharge of mi dutye to your L.
