[fol. 165r] By this last poste R. honorable L. I Receved lres (among others) from mi Awncyent frynd Pawle Buis then att Myddelburgh, & now att Dordrecht. They bare date the 21. of this moneth, & conteyned sondry advertisements of the state of things ther, butt namelye that the P. of Orange & som others did contynew in their Awncyent havior to favor the frenche still, & nottwithstanding their Trecheryes of late, & the unrecoverable wound that was gyven to the whole contry & their affayres, by repposing to marche uppon [ deleted: theme] the sayde frenche & their [ deleted: gyde] ^gyde^ , yett did the Prynce persiste asswell dyrectlye as indyrectlye to Revoke monsieur agayn & to have him the person that sholld & cowd be hable to deliver the Lowe Countryes from the spaynissh yoke, butt as we (sayes he) esteme no yoke of Tyranye lighte, so of all other that of frawnce is most hevye & hatefull where it lightes, wherfore he concluded that holland & zeland wolld utterlye ympugne the coming in of the french, who beyng devyded [ deleted: & beggars withall] among theme sellves & beggars withall, cowd yll give that hellpe to others, that they cowd nott minister to [ deleted: others] ^theme sellves^ And of this assent, were the other provynces aswell beyond the mose. as of this syde. And [ deleted: he] in particler, protested, that he was (next to the dutye borne to his contry) whollye to cowncell so as might comprise the good of England as their owne, & in all things he were hable, to do her majesty faythfull service, wherinsoever she wolld prescribe him, praying your L. to take that awthoritye over him, that ye wolld [ deleted: bothe use hym] ^over a dere frind yn^ & comanding him as on speciallye addycted to your vertew & person./ [fol. 165v] he hopes well that they shalbe hable to yssew owtt of this mase of confusyon they be in, so they be ones resollved of that they wolld have concluded in this Assemblye of dordrecht. They of holland he sayes, have very resolutelye determined to spare nether mony nor menes, that may serve to ayde the comune good, having sent ijm footemen & 400. horse to mayntayne Barrow & wownd the castell, agaynst the Enemyes, by menes wher of the Towne of Sterneburgh taken of Late from the States, cannot holld owtt./ He promiseth to lett your L. understand by me how they proceede in their sayd dyett, & whatt the trew state of things be from tyme to tyme./ He hath cawsed to be brewed for him heer of speciall beere for his own provysyon a ix or x. ^Tone^ wherof he desired me to move your L. for your Token to the customer. seying he is no merchant [ deleted: that] & the matter so small which yf your L. will vowchsave to acqwaynt the Q. majestie with, I suppose [ deleted: he] ye shold do her a good service.
