My R. honorable good L. to write unto yow the partycularityes of Owdenard how it was yellded up to the possessyon of the Enmye, & whatt practises & forcs were used to bryng the same to passe, shalbe a thyng rather of anoyance to your L. than of ani plesure or proffitt. Butt the composityon was honorable lyke unto that of Turny, the copye wherof I do send your L. herewith & withall on new booke of lres intercepted, concluded att this ynstant to be [ymparted] for matter that grettly ymports./

This Town & people, is in grett passyon for the losse of Owdenard, & do exclaym, that they fynde nothing butt Tresons & deceytts in Monsieur & the frenche. The P. of Orenge is charged allso with insufficyencye, & want of good delyng, who answers as on that had his shollders [ deleted: charged] laden, that he can do no more than he can./

We loke for Revolltes & allteracions of every syde & for the decaye of the means, how to furnissh the contributyons./ And att this present our frynds ar discorayged & the Stats do waver in their Resolutyons. As allso Gellderland lyke to becom malcontent, whose Townes have denyed to paye ani more excise or ymport. And the warre of our syde, lyke to be deffensyve./

The frenche K. as he hath drawen things in lengthe, performyng lyttel hitherunto, especiallye the shuttyng up of the passayge of maziers & Calyce. so may he be redy uppon this yll luck (beholldynge Italye, Spayn, Germany &c. yn action agaynst us) to abandon his brother & the cawse for all together: which is the frute of conivencyes & of the Cowncell which he Reteynes as most secrett to hym sellf. yett he hath assembled the gravest persons of his Reallm att this present, to conclude how he shall proceede, with the K. of Spayn, whom he hath so mani wayes offended. ytt is most certayn that the .K. of Spayn will prevayll here grettlye this yere, yf England or frawnce do not substanciallye lend their hands. And on Sonday I sawe lres wrytten hither, from the frenche Lygyer in England, that the Q. majestie was never so fervent yn the mariage, as now: havyng by othe assured the sayd Lygyer, that in case the frenche K. wolld discharge her of these warres, she wolld then marye Monsieur his brother, which speches ar Receved here as yntertaynments to free her sellf by, & to bryng others yn to the danger & charge, menyng [ deleted: noles] nothyng les than to perfforme in the end that which she beres in hand./

The frenche Trowpes & the Rutters, ar looked for att dunkerck, not by the waye of menyng, butt by a grett wynd les abowtt from [marqwine] [fol. 186v] & Arlewx playn west to Awxi uppon the Ryver Awthye, & thens to [Muttix] & by Bullemoys & the Contrey of Oye, to passe att a lowe water benethe Gravellyng. The Cownt of mansfellt departed hence on thursdaye to meete with theme./ And our Camp removed towards Brugs on Satertdaye to joyne with the sayd Trowpes, when the Enmyes Camp followes, & is to becom dangerows, yf they cutt bettwen the on & the other./

A grett garrison is [ deleted: lefte] lefte at Gawnt, & now our forcs yf they joyne shalbe yncamped beffore Brugs to lett the enmyes entrye that waye./ ytt hath byn debated to have Monsieur yn person within Brugs, butt som were of oppynion that it were very ynconvenyent, Lastlye ytt is concluded, that to satisfye this people, bothe Monsieur & the ij Princs of Orenge & Pynoys, shall [ deleted: this nexte weeke] depart personallye to Brugs to assiste & provyde for the affayres of the Army./

The P. of Parma hath ij m footemen & vj C horsemen Burgonions com to hym, his Italyen & Spanissh supplyes, be yn their marche hither wards, so ar ther [ deleted: Regyments ] certayn Regyments of horse men & footemen owtt of Germany with pyoners from Bohemia./

The whole howse [ Marginalia (by Herle): of Gwyse] att this present ar assembled in normandye, & have sent of late a pryvate messenger ynto Scottland to the K. & to debygnye./

On Goodryche Comissarye over the Scottissh K. gards, hath byn here these x or xj dayes, he congratulated with Monsieur his ynvestiture yn these Estates, & desired a good yntelligens to be had bettwen the K. & Monsieur, som pryvate delyng he had for Coronell Steward, yn whose favor the K. dyd avowe very far, desiring that he might have leve & dispatche, to repayre to the sayd K. towards whom he hath taken his jorney on sondaye, butt first he most visite Battemburgh, & then from Camphire to take shippeng ynto Scottland./ yf ani provysyons of munityon be made from hens for the sayd K. use, I shall have the mene to understand it./ They of that syde be grettly discontented with us./

The d. of Areschott & his son, P. of Chymye ar looked for here to which socyetye they ar the more confidentlye admytted, for that the sayd P. is becom a protestant, & hath Receved the comunyon att [Sedan] yett that Race is noted of grett unstedfastnes./

They of Mallta have taken a very Riche shippe comyng from Constantinople, that appertaynes to the Company att London that traffickes thither. I wolld they might fee me well to sollicyte in her majesties name the delyverye of the sayd shipp, to which jorney I cowd [ deleted: well] dispose mi sellf./
