Feb 3. Sr. I Williamson. [mr. Hooke brought in an Inuention of his for nicely discouering the alterations of the Height of the Barometer
by obuiating the objections against Mr. Hubins way, both of the differing counterpressure.
the same mentiond another expt. to shew the aduantage of telescope sights ouer plain ones, both which he was
desired to explain the next meeting.]
Feb:10. S. Io: Willn . [mr. H: aduised that the best way to preserue some of those substances whereof the quality was

[mr. Ho: said that these brown earths are a tincture giuen by water running through some iron minerall]
[mr. Ho: affirmd that he had in his custody some English cobolt, which is the minerall out of wch blew smalt is made

the expt. about the Comparison of plain & telescope sights at the beginning of the next meeting it being now soe
dark to see wth the exactnesse requisite, - The same Reported that the papers of the Learned Dr. Pell Lately deceased
were partly in the custody of Dr. Busby and the rest at Brereton in cheshire, he was desired to doe his Indeauour
to obtein the said papers for the Society.] then mr. Ho: read his discourse of the Improuements of the Barometer
by taking off the inequality of the pressure of the coloured liquor in mr. Habins way. , he was desired to giue it
in to be registred. he desired to be excused at that time but promised shortly to bring in an account thereof.]
The same vpon the occation mentiond that on Wend: the 3d instant the was exceeding high. vizt. 30, 6. inches and that he
neuer obserud it higher. that once a year in the Winter monthes of Decembr. Ian: or February the stands higher -
then in all the rest of the year besides, generally presaging frost.
mr. Ho: asserting it it was questiond by Dr. Lister if the Register or Iournall of the society mention a glasse cane
of 32 foot long made for the toricellian Expt. (vide Iuly 15. 1663).
The same mentiond an instrumt of his Contriuance, whereby he could Discouer the thickness & thiness of the air,
abstracted from its grauity, which he was desired to perfect & bring in - The same was desired to proceed to
shew his expt. whereby he would establish a generall weight & measure by meanes of a drop of , it being que
ried by some of the Company (Lister) whether the 500th. part of a grain would by any meanes be discouered ^ /in a scale/
Feb:17. S I. Willn. mr Wollers table of Colours. [mr. Ho: shewd an Expt. to proue the excellency of telescope sights aboue plain ones
by comparing a direction by the Naked Eye with a Radius of 10 foot, wth. that of a telescope of 3 inches, and it appeared to
the Satisfaction of all present, that there was a very great aduantage to the telescope. The same promised to bring in
the next time an inuention of his wherby the Limb of a small instrument may be divided so as to haue many dis=
cernable parts, as a very Large one according to the vsuall manner of the diuision of instruments, as likewise
an other contriuance to set such a small instrument perpendicularly to take altitudes as well as by a Large
Radius. Mr. Ho: affirmed that that mr. Hubins Contriuance of the Barometer, was formerly brought into
before the Society by himself. and that he in truth was the inuentor thereof. E.H. was ordered to Search the
bookes of the Society to see if there be any record thereof. -[mr. Ho: promised again to shew an In
strument that should Distinguish the difference of the Grauity of the ambient air. [The same -
being Called vpon for the Expt. whereby he would make it appear a vniuersall measure & weight
from a drop of desired to be excused for some time till the Sun be gotten more north wards-] -
mr. Ho: read and gaue in an account of Mr. Boyles booke of Languid & vnheeded motions presented the Last Day.
[mr. Ho: presented a Roman Brick taken out of London Wall neer ald gate. the Dimensions thereof were. 11' broad. 17'. Long. 1 1/2 thick
Feb:24. Sr. Io: Willn. It appeard upon the Iournall of the society that the contriuance of the Barometer made and published by mr Hubin in the year
1673 was brought in before the society by mr. Hooke in Iune 1668. It appeard Likewise tht mr Iustell.
