[In margin]Vol. 3.   March. 21. 1666/7. The curator produced againe his new kind of contracted telescope of two foot
long performing the part of a 6 foot Glasse by the meanes of 2 reflections he was orderd to bring in the
Description of it and to try it vpon nocturnall obiects, as also to haue ready at the next meeting a 6
foot glasse to compare it with & to change the Obiect glases. (Reiue to be acquainted the Society acepted of his 120
foot glasse.) Mr Smethwicks glasse vsed as an eye glasse. Sr. P Neile was desired to incourage the Inuentor of this vnder
taking. who intimated that he had wished him to addresse himself to Mr Hooke for assistance.
The curator brought in the Description of his Instrument of an easy and simple, but vniversall instrument to
Describe all kinds of plain dialls together with ademonstration of the principles and Reason of it. It was
orderd to be enterd, and the curator affirming that vpon the same principle he could frame an instrument
to indicate the Inaequality of Dayes, he was desired to cause such an instrument to be made. (a Scotch amethyst
where are whole rocks of the same. also yellow spar from Ireland dd. to mr Hooke for repository) Dr Cotton profess magnets.)
The curator was put in mind to make expt. wth the great Loadstone. (letter from Paris about starr in collo cetj & in andro
meda.) The curator affirmed tht the air had been soe thick about London lately that he had not been able to
see the sd starrs) The Curator was desired to bring in at the next meeting his demonstration of ye curue
line &. (Hayes the figures of snow) bone out of bladder) of transfusing blood of a mangy into sound dog) account from
from paris of the same.)
March. 28. 1667. Smethwicks glasse.) There was an expt. made by Dr. Kings operation of bleeding a sheep into a
spaniell dog. soe as 15 ounces of the doggs blood being first Lett out before any supply of the other blood was giuen
there was afterwards transfused into him out of the sheep 36 ounces at Least which was computed by the time
of bleeding measurd by a minute watch. by which it appeard that in the space of 4 minutes 17. ounces of blood
at Least had been Lett Run into the dog out of the sheep since that the sheep being afterwards sufferd to
bleed into a dish for the space of 8 minutes the blood Let out in that time weighed about 36
during wch. time the blood must be supposed to run slower than it did before when it was sufferd to run
into the Dog. (account of transfusion). mr. Hooke produced some muscles grown in a stone at the
bottom of the sea for the Repository. Dr. Wren produced the shapes of haile falln march 26. 1667. the vpper
part of which was a perfect cone. the vnder part the frustrum of a cone, being turnd vp the represented a mari
gold flower. the angle that of a pentagon. soe tht 5 of them ioynd together did make a circle orderd to be registred
Dr. Wilkins the silk of Pinna marina) Mr The curator proposed an expedite way of making Bricks
the consideration whereof referred to the next meeting. he promised to bring in a 6 foot glasse to compare
wth. the Reflecting box and to change the obiect glasses -

Ap. 18. 1667. Dr. King of transfusion) present for repository. Wooden bellows wthout Leather. mr Pouey promisd
a hammock) mr. Hooke was desired to meet at Sr. George Ents wth the rest of the anatomicall committee
to make scetches of what was considerable. mr Hooke produced his module for brickmaking and pro
mised to produce an other at the next meeting. As also to produce his way of making sphericall glasses
bear great apertures without Colours.
Apr: 25. 1667. mr. Hooke produced a Leuell almost the same wth that of the french Lately printed
in their Iournall de Scauans. he was orderd to giue a scheme & description of it in writing. The same
proposed a way of measuring the circumference of the Earth wth. a 12 foot glasse & 3 stakes to be prac
tised in St. Iames s park in a calm day orderd that this be put in execution as soon as may be -
(Sr. Th: Deuaux paper of making wax candles read and orderd to be filed vp. mr Hook produced a Letter
conteining an answer made by one mr Cellers to two magneticall querys. printed in philosophicall
transaction numb. 423. 424. orderd to be enterd in the Letter book the same was desired to inquire of
mr. Collers what way he vseth to make a needle turn north & south wthout touching it with a Loadstone
he mentiond that a drill by making a hole wth it in a peice of steel in a perpendicular position
will contract the verticity of north & south i mr Hooke was desired to ^ /cause to be/ make both horizontall and
inclinatory magnetick needles as nice as might and to haue an inclinatory one hung vp constantly
