mr. Henshaw vice Presidt. tooke the chair.

The Minutes of Ian. 15 were read which gaue occasion of Discour
sing further concerning Champhire

Sr. Will. Petty Related that the powder of Camphire though mixed
wth. snow would burn when kindled.

mr. Henshaw Related that the king of Achim had great quan
titys of it which he kept in chest which when he had a mind
to burn ships In his harbours, he would power out upon the
sea, one part of wch. swimming powder being fired would giue
fire to all the rest that swam vpon the Water and thereby set
fire to the out sides of any ship Laying at ankers in his harb
ours

Doctr. Croon mentiond that .......... /the Society/ had a glasse of Oyle of
Cinnamon sent from mr Vernatti which he conceiued was extrac . . . . .
...... ted from the camphir tree

Others supposed that twas the wood of the cinnamon that
yealded the Camphir Gum, and consequently that the cinnamon
& the camphir came both from the same tree. the cinnamon (Called
cannello) being the bark shrunk vp into a pipe, and the wood of the
tree being that wch. is called camphir wood.
Mr. Henshaw was of opinion that a caustick did often stop the pain
of the teeth by destroying the wormes & also by making the part
senselesse

mr. Hooke Read a Letter wch. he had Receiued since the Last fro
Mr. Leeuwenhoek giuing /an/ account of some further Discouerys of
an exceeding small sort of Wormes found in Ginger water -
as also .. the grounds why he conceiues the parts of water cannot
be made visible by microscope.

The Society were very well pleased therewth. & Desired that thanks
should be sent to him for his soe freely communicating his Ob
seruations

Mr. Hooke produced Aphosphoros Giuen him by Dr. Sleger which was Exa
mined by Mr Henshaw Sr. Cyrill wych & seuerall others and was
found to be very receptiue of Light
