which is by the meanes of the braine of the creature they kill when
they mixd wth. oyle of walnuts calld hiccary nutts and a lime made of
oyster shells. with this they smeer ouer the Raw side of the Skin & by the
help of fire presently dress it wth the hair on that it equalls if not
exceeds any way vsed in Europe.
mr. Henshaw conceiud that the Russian & turky way of tanning
their Leather was wth the bark of the Birch & the saw dust of
firr. He also sayd they had a sort of wooden cupps in Russia which
were as tuff as Leather & might be turned inside outward wthout brea
=king. And further that they haue a sort of Apples as transparent
as a ripe white grape soe that the core & kernells may be plain
ly perceiued from wthout.

mr. Hooke Read a translation he had made of a Letter of mr Leuwen
hooke formerly Rd by Dr. Grew in which he gaue an account of his
obseruations made on the seed of Animalls as of fishes birds & Beasts
in all wch. he affirmes he has discouered wth his . . . microscope vast
quantitys of Liuing Creatures exceeding small. to wch. he annexed a
paper in which he had calculated /both/ the number of these animalls in the melt
of a Cod fish & the number of men at one time vpon the whole in
habitable face of the earth & concludes that the number of the
former exceeds the Latter at Least ten times.




Dr. Grew Produced /shewed/ some Draughts of the gutts of some creatures
he had formerly Dissected of which he promised to bring in an account.
but he Left not the draughts.
