mr. Henshaw the vice pt. tooke the chair
The same Returnd the Phosphorus presented by mr Slayer and
Gaue an account of some tryalls made therewth. Among many
other It was very remarkable that the by seuerall tryalls he could not
perceiue that the light of the moon had any sensible operation vpon
it at all though he had tryed it to the best Aduantage. And mr
Hooke suggesting that possibly by collecting the radiation of that
body by a burning Glasse it might haue some sensible effect
of the stone It was Desired that he should make tryall thereof between
this and the next meeting & Giue . . . at account thereof at that
time.

The maps and Ground plots of Seuerall townes in Denmark sent by
mr. Resen to mr. Henshaw were here produced & shewn to this
meeting

by the way mr. Henshaw obserued that Riuers that are much fre=
quented by crocodiles haue their water made soe offensiue by their
musky smell that they cannot be made vse of by the Inhabitant
for drinking
mr. Crisp Related that in some of the Riuers of Africa where the
Gamby company trade they are soe frequent that 20 or 30
sometimes of them will follow a bote vpon those Riuers.
Sr. I. Hoskins - mentiond An old statue wher at Rome of the
Riuer nilus wherein men wh were carued killing of crocodiles.
Seuerall Query were made concerning the Rattles of Rattle snakes
whether they were the epiphysis of the tayle bone? or whether
they were not the end of the skin cast off euery year?

As also concerning the vnicornes horne whether it were the
horn or Rather the tooth of the fish caught about Groneland
mr. Hooke produced and read a paper conteining a Description of the way
of flying inuented and practised by one mor Besnier a smith of sable
in the county of Meyn. The contriuance of wch. consisted in ordering
4 wings folding & shutting like folding sashes to be moued by his hand
before & Leggs behind soe as to moue Diagonally and to counter
poyse each other. by wch. means it was sayd he was able to fly from
a high place crosse a riuer. to a pretty Distance.
