mr. Henshaw affirmed that there was a way by wch. the whole
body of sea salt might be conuerted into an /insipid water./ alcalizate
salt vizt. by heating of it very hott & suffering it to run
per Deliquium then Heating the Remainder and suffering
that to Run also and by soe continuing to Heat the Re=
mainder the whole body of the salt will at last be
conuerted into an true Alcalizate Salt Insipid liquor -
much after the manner as Dr Dickenson had by long cir
culation conuerted the /18/20 of the/ whole body of water into white
earth.

Herevpon was occasioned a great Discourse about the cause
of the salt nesse of the sea, some being of opinion
that the saltnesse of the sea proceeded only from
the Heat of the sun vpon the sea in the Torrid
Zone, though the greater part were of Opinion
that the saltnesse of the sea proceeded from the
Dissolution of the salt mineralls of the earth either
at the Bottom or sides of the sea or brought into it
by salt springs made by the Raine waters passing
through salt mines.
