Sr Ionas more obserued that the Barometer at Tan

but continued always much about the same height


Preceding the Experiment there was much Discourse
vpon the Experiment of the Past meeting concerning
the cause of fire and It was Generally concluded
that the said experiments did further explaine &
Illustrate the Theory of Fire by the airs consuming
dissoluing or Corroding the burning body

mr.      Sherindon hauing subscribed his name to the ^ /vsuall/ Obliga

Mr Hooke shewd an expt. which he had mentiond the Last Day the
Intent of wch. was to see whether a cole heated to a degree
of A Glasse and hot sufficient to melt the glasse that Included
It would by that violence of Heat be consumed or made to
shine and Giue light. To this End a peice of charcole was
Included in A vrinall Glasse soe orderd by the meanes of wires
that the same Remained in the middle of the belly of the vrinall
wthout touching either the sides or bottom, then this vrinall
was placed vpon A Chaffing dish of Cleer burning coles
and soe suffered to stand /till/ the belly of the glasse was red
hott at which time the mouth of the vrinall was
close stopped wth. Clay, then the coles in the chaffing dish were
blowed on very quick wth. bellows whereby the lower parts
of the vrinall melted and were thrust inwards by the coles
on wch. it stood, notwthstanding wch. great heat the cole in
