sr. Iohn Hoskins Related that he had obserued the same
thing in Bedfordshire
Sr. Ionas more Related that there was at the top of Pendle hill
in Lancashire a plaine about a quarter of a mile ouer wch
being Dugg to the depth of about 5 or 6 foot Is found to
conteine great numbers of fossile trees supposd to be firrs

He further added that this Hill was a great Receptacle of
waters and that there had been seuerall times obserued -
great Gushings out of water from the sides of the same
which haue hapned at seuerall times at the distance of 30
years or thereabout.
At the top of this Hill growes the cloud berry noe where els found
Dr. Crone Related some such kind of obseruation of the
springs about Epsom which once in 7 years or therea
bout are obserued to Rise and ouerflow the grounds
& cellers thereabout -
mr Hensh Euelyn vpon this occasion mentiond an Instance of a hill
that was hollow vnderneath & soe much haue a great Recepta
cle of water. the Riuer mole sinking vnder it on one side
& rising out againe on the other. this was box hill neer dar
king in Surrey. vnder wch. the Riuer mole passed
mr. Henshaw . obserued that the Riuer Guadiana in Spain
was much of the like nature.
mr. Hooke Shewed the experiment of putting fire into a box
and there keeping it Blowed on wth. Bellows till it appear[d]
to haue quite Lost its burning and shining ./ there admitting fresh
air into the same & blowing them wth. the same bellowes they
presently rekindled and burned & shined as before. this
was thrice repeated to the satisfaction of the Members pre
sent. But that some farther proof for the making outt his theory
might be examined he was desired to shew some Other Exp[t
of this nature the next meeting. -
Dr. croon Read a Letter of his to Borellj to inuite him to send
ouer his Discourse which he had written de mota animalium
for that the society would Indeauour to procure the same well
printed here. he was thanked by the society and Disired to send
the said Letter as soon as might be.
