The President tooke the chair.

The minutes of Ian the 9th. were reade, wherevpon the Presidt. tooke occa
sion to mention propound as a matter Desirable that an account should
be procured of the Reports and obseruations made of the quarters of the
wind in the seuerall parts of this kingdom, of wch. the Letters from seuerall
parts gaue an account.
He also inquired whether Dr. Goad, had perfected his theory of predicting -
the quarter & strength of the winds from astronomy. To wch. Sr. Ionas more
Replyed that Mr. Flamstead had examined seuerall of Dr. Goads predictions but
had not found one of three true. But mr. Henshaw and examined them
continually for about 2 years together ^ /1 month about since/ and had found not aboue a quarter
one of four fals.
The President then enquired why we did not ye Receaue some account from
mr. Flamstead . to wch. Sr. Ionas more replyed that he would wth.in a fortnight
be ready to produce a book of his obseruations. It was likewise enquired
what was become of the Instruments of the society that had been Carried
to Greenwich. And It was desired that they might be returned to the Reposito
ry in order to haue them Ready for /the/ vse of the Society -
The President enquired of Sr. Ionas more concerning an Expt. he had
been informed of ^ /vizt/ of the throwing a Copper farthing into a Liquor which being
euaporated coupelled would proue good Gold.



mr. Henshaw supposed it might be ^ /done/ somewt after the manner as precipita
ting Siluer out of vpon copper plates.
mr. Hooke mentiond another expt. somewt like it whereby Iron was said to
be turned into Copper. mr. Henshaw mentiond the chaines Said to be turnd
from Iron into copper by the minerall waters in Hungary brought thence by
Dr. Brown.
mr. euelyn Related that Salt of being Dissolued in water, might by put
into that water, then euaporating it & cappelling the sediment be reduced
to againe
Herevpon mr. Henshaw related that the duke of Buckingham had a way of making
a mercury which would grow hott by Dissoluing gold. Dr. Croon Added that mr. Boyle
had done the same thing, But had sayd that the Expt. of making this did not
always succeed.
mr. Henshaw Related a like experiment of augmenting /gold./ siluer made
by Dr. Kefler, which was made /by/ an aqua fortis made by the help of
sand taken out of the Balast of a ship. wch experiment trying with
other sand he found would not succeed -
