the same was found to burn & flame all away like
Brimstone, and to yeald noe copper at all.
mr. Hooke obserued that this might probably happen from the
mixture and vnion of some salts & sulphurs wth. the metall
which if they were not by some other artifice separated from
the metall before the same came to be tryd by the fire vio
lence of the fire wthout such artifice or mixture the sulphur
and salts would carry away the metall of the copper &
neuer suffer it to melt or separate from them into a
body. And for confirmation of this alledged that he
knew a way to make euen the body of common Copper
commix againe wth. such Heterogeneous bodys and being
put into a fire to burne fly all away and burne almost
like common Brimston, which yet copper soe ordered might
yet be againe Reduced soe as to melt and not fly away at
all.
