mr. Henshaw the vice prest: tooke the chair

mr Hooke produced the condensing engine which he had caused to
be new amended and made more seruiceable for tryall of seuer
=rall experiments therein of the effects of condensed air -
And experiment was made to see the effect of condensing
the air in a gage or standerd wch was suspended wthin the
cauity thereof.

It was Desired by the society that /some/ experiments might be
tryed the next Day in the said Engine vpon ani some
animall in order to see how much Longer a creature would
continue aliue in the said engine filled wth condensed air
then filled wth. common air.

Also that the Rarefying engine might be put in order for
the tryall of the con same animalls in Rarefyed air, to see
how much sooner an animall will expire in Rarefyed
air then in Common air of the same extension -

mr Pouey Presented the society for their Library a small
sticht booke in quarto, called
                giuing a History of chelsey Colledge.
the Booke was Deliuerd to mr. Hunt for the Repository
The same also presented the society wth some other curiositys for
their Repository, which were deliuerd also to mr. Hunt to be there
kept. vizt. the Claw of a West Indian spider (very much like
the claw of a Lobster or crabb). which was giuen him by the Lord
Willougby of Parham, as a present Remedy against the
toothach.
The same also produced some Glasse drops in order to shew the
experiment of their violent bursting and fly discharging
the par parts of it vpon the breaking of the smaller end thereof
^ /the small end of/ one of wch. was broken by a pair of plyers, and the whole
body of the glasse flew insunder & despersed its parts euery
way wth. great brisknesse.
mr. Hooke mentiond that the manner of the breaking of the body
might be seen if the same were dipped two or three times in
very cleane transparent glew. which was desired might be
prepared accordingly against the next meeting for making the
