made a certaine Drink which Calld by the natiue Cassenj which did strangely
exhillerate those that drank it . . . and freed them from troublesome feares
for 24 or 30 howrs after but that then they were more flat. the manner
of preparing this Drink he Described but he promising to bring some
of it hither the next thursday and to shew the manner of making
it the manner description thereof is here omitted bearing Surely pon dropsy
vpon this the mention strange qualitys of the Herb Deutroa were menti
oned. as also those of some other plants.

But Dr. D Cox related that there was another Snake week found out which
was a most infallible cure against of the biting & poyson of Rattle snakes

mr Aubery related that there was an herb ^ /called Terrara./ brough ouer by Sr. Peter Colliton
from Carolina, and that the same grew here in mr Iohnsons Garden, which
was esteemed the best antidote against all manner of poysons, the vertue
of wch. herb was kept amongst the Indians as a great secret but that
It was procured by one that married an Indian Kings Daughter.
This was said to be mentiond in the History of the Antillas and
called Herbes aux Fleches.

mr. Henshaw ^ Related that Garcilasso de La Vega in his history of Peru
mentions how they make their poyson for poysoning their arrows & Darts
namely by ^ /sticking them into/ hanging vp mans flesh ^ /hung vp/ till it be rotten and stinking putrifyd
he also mentiond a relation of a boy wch thrusting his thumb into . . . the
corrupted flesh ^ /of one killd by a poysnyd arrow executed/ was very like to haue lost his Arme by a gangrene.
The same also mentiond the strange effects Related of the Macasser poysond
arrows of /Atchin/ Macasser, which by touching the blood wthout the Skin would
presently turne it yellow which yellownesse would spread . and if It gott
wth.in the wound would kill the person by this way they know whether their
poison be right.

mr. Aubrey Related that Doggs licking the sanies of one hanged in chaines
near Kensington were poysond & Died and that a man wearing
the shooes wch. had been taken off his ^ /from a malefactors/ feet after he was Rotten had
his feet Rotted off.

mr. Henshaw Related that there was an Arbutus calld in spanish Madrones
which was somewt of the nature of Deutroa. the fruit of wch. being
eaten would make those as twere mad or Drunk for a certaine time
which eat it. but that the continuation of this Would in time
make them sottish and fooles.
Dor: D: Cox Related that Bacon (who at his first going Into America had been very curious
in making obseruations on Animalls as well as plants) had giuen to him a Description
of certaine animalls that were found in a mightly Large plaine or champain country
Lying between Hudsons Bay & Calefornia in vast great numbers or heards these herds
