Dr. Croon alledged that mor. De Schales in his Cursus had giuen
a Theory of the Resistance of the Air to bodys moued through
it together wth. a great number of Experiments to that
purpose
Sr. Ionas more Related that A hurricane blowing off the
ball from the top of the Steeple at Durham it had ac
quired soe great a velocity in its fall from soe great a
height that it sunk it self at Least 4 foot into the
ground, wch. he supposd was occasioned by reason of its -
great bulk and the great height of the place from whence
It fell.
mr. Hooke moued that for the examination of the Descent
of Heauy bodys tryalls should be made wth. granodos
shot Directly vpwards as neer as might be, at Black
heath, /in which tryalls/ and to obseruation ^ /should be made of/ the time of its ascent & Descent
which might be very easily done the same being very
easily /plainly/ visible at a distance
mr. Hill alledged that in Ricciolus there was an account of an
experiment of shooting a shell perpendicularly vpwards
and that It had always been found to fall to the westwards of
the place from whence it was shot
mr. Hill further added that by many experiments tryd at douer
castle It had been found that noe gunn in that place would
shoot aboue a mile & an half into the Sea -
The reason of wch. was shewn to be the proportion between
the velocity of the horizontall & perpendicular motions.

After this mr Hooke shewd the fibers microscopicall figure
of the fibers of . . . a muscle and explained the Reason
of their motion by wreathed helicall gut and a straight
string whereby the vpon the blowing vp the gutt & filling
