May it please your good L. There is order taken for a Rendez Vous of the forces of these countryes to be made in certain places of the Betow, & Velow, and all to be assembled the 14th of this moneth. I have sent your L. heer a list of the severall nombers that are accorded to be drawen out of every Province. A few daies past the house of westerlo in Brabant adjoyning to Herentals, a place of some strength and appartaining to the Baron of Merode was surprised by the souldiers of Breda, young Merode the sonne, by whom the house was kept, was riden abroad or hunting, wherby they missed of his parson, Howbeit the place was taken by 120 souldiers who continewe in it still & would willingly keepe yt against the force of the ennemy, for yt lieth very fitly with a marish about it that the Ennemy cannot easily approche with any battery but heer is no resolution yet taken whether yt shalbee held or abandoned, also of late their have issewed certaine troupes of Breda to the number of 300 horse & have defeated the horse company of the C. of Arenberg which was 200 strong, & lay in the Country of Valkenborg neer to Aquisgrave, bein wherof the souldiers had Intelligence by 2 brethren, which being wronged by the ennemy sought to bee revenged by geving secret notice, both of the meanes & of the place to assault them unawares, besides those that were slain, there ar brought to Breda about, 60 horses of service, & 18 prisoners, moreover there hath bin of late a hott encounter between the Liegeois, and the mutins of Diest, in which were slain, 150 spaniardes & of Liege 300, & the rest put to flight, Heer is very good hope, that the quarel thus begon wi[ll be] hardly taken up, which wil come the Ennemy ill t[o passe] considering his affaires have so many other cross[es] which as wee are informed encrease evry day b[y their] civil dissention, having no other matter &c May [5 1591]href="http://www.livesandletters.ac.uk/cell/Bodley/transcript.php?fname=xml//1591//DCB_1033.xml"
