lettertext
May it please your good L. there is lately deceased, at Disbourgh in Gelderland Captain Smith, whose lieutenant John Throckmorton, hath bin ever esteemed an honest, and a va- liant gentleman: wherof his service made proofe, in the last encounter with the Enemie, at the victualling of Berke. I thinke Sir Francis Vere, who hath alwaies commended him, for his valew and conduct, will affourde him that testimonie, that is dewe unto him. He was first lieutenant to Captain Hart, and after his decease, became sutor for his captains rowme, whiche was then conferred /upon captain Hunninges, and after againe/ uppon captain Smith, who being departed, if nowe the third time he should not be respected, it would muche discourage both him and others, that serve as Lieutenants: whiche your L. I trust, will take in good part, that I signifie thus boldly. And so I take my humble leave. From the Hage. August 23 Anno 90. Your L. most humbly bounden Tho. Bodley
