Ianuary the 5th. 1680/1.


The Secretary R hauing Receiued notice from Mr
Boyle that he had Refused to accept of the Pre
sidents Place of the Royall Society into which office
he had been Elected on the Anniversary Day, and that
therefore it was his Request to the Society that they would
make choyse of some other Person to succeed in that
office. A councell (In pursuance of the tatues of
the Society made In that Behalf) was summoned
^ /by the secretary/ to meet at Greham Colledge this Day in order ^ /to/ Elect
another President for the Remaining part of the
year. at wch. were Present 14. vizt

   were sworn of

mr. Boyle Giuing an account of why he
Refused and could not accept of the Presi
dents place for the Ensuing Year. And his
Earnest Request that they would proceed to
choose another.
After some Debates concerning the manner
and method of the Election. The Councell

agreed that Euery Person should write vpon a peice of
paper the Name of the Person they thought most fitt to
succeed in that office which being collected & Read It Appeared
that they all concurred in their choice of Sr. Christopher Wren
His Majestys Surueyor Generall of his Majty Works for President
of the Society for the Remaining Part of the Year & till another be chosen
