May the 13. 1680.


mr mell Before the Society Sat Mr. Mellin who has Long made
it his pleasure & businesse to make small ^/Lenses for/ microscopes call shewd
seuerall of the Society some of his own making which were exceed
ing small and yet very good, one whereof being /a/ Double conuex
was noe bigger then this [ink dot] vizt about a twentyeth part of an inch.

It magnifyed the obiect exceedingly and yett was very cleer. he pro
mised the next Day to present a set of such Lenses.

After this Mr. Hooke giuing an account that he had seen seuerall
small animalls in the water wherein mint grew, the water was
examined wth. a microscope and seuerall of those small long
creatures were Discouered by the vicept. & diuers of the company

Then the vicePt. Mr. Henshaw tooke the chair.

The minutes of May the 6th. were read. And thanks was orderd
to be returnd to Mr. Short for his Present by Mr. Perry.

The vicePt. moued that some of those small microscopes might
be sent to Sigr. Malpighius as a present from this Society
which was well approued of by the Society.

Mr. Hooke produced 3 Letters from Mr. Leuwenhoek one to the
President & Fellows of the Society Conteind his thanks for the honour
they had done him in chusing him a fellow thereof. A 2d to Mr Hook
acknowledging the Receipt of the Diploma sent, and A profession
of the great esteem he had of thereof wth. a profession of his Zeale to
serue the Society in wt he was able for the future as long as he liued
A 3d to Dr. Gale conteining an answer to the Drs. addresse by the
Last Letter and . . . . an account of some further Discouerys
made in the Iuice of Plants of animalls &c. mr. Astin tooke
this letter & promised to put it into English againt the next
meeting it being written in Dutch.

Mr. Hooke produced 3 Papers Deliuerd to him by Sr. Theodore
De Vaux being some of Sr. Theodore Meyhernes conteining
some account about the mixture of metalls. they were
orderd to be transcribed and the papers to be again returned
to Sr. Theodore wth. the Societys thanks.

Mr. Hooke Produced the two first sheets of a discourse of Mr Iobe
Ludolphus Sec Counsellor to the Emperor & Duke of Saxon Gota
being a history of AEthiopia and the kingdom
