Mr. Henshaw vice Presidt. tooke the chair.

The minutes of the Last meeting were Read which gaue occasion
of some further Discourse about the way of preseruing Iron fro Rust
Mr. Hunt produced the Brasse & Iron nailes which were couerd wth tin
that had layn all the Last week in brine &c which seemd to be little
alterd thereby. Howeuer it being conceiued that those nailes were
not soe well couerd wth tin as they might be mr. Henshaw directed
that they should be filed before they were dipped in tin because thereby
the tin would more intirely ioyne to them and couer them.

Vpon Discoursing about the great Depths of some parts of the
sea neer the shore, mr. Hill related that in the fare of Messina
not far from the shore noe bottom could be found by sounding.

Mr. Hook being asked some reason why he supposed the stomack to pro
mote Digestion by its motion. alledged the muscular constitution
and make of stomacks, more especially remarkable on the gizzards
of fowle, and the motion that he had found of them in Diuers In
sects which are transparent. as also the peristaltick motion of the Gutts
&c.

Mr. Henshaw conceiud that the Gizzards of fowle were a Suppliment in
stead of teeth to grind and bruise their food, and sayd that chicken
& other fowles would dye if they wanted Grauell in their Gizzards
to grind their feed.

Mr. Euelyns Letter brought in Last day was Read about the Vnicorn
& the Roo macquequan Root.

The other About the Bezoar being in Spanish was pervsed by Dr.
Whistler.

This gaue occasion to Discourse concerning the vnicorn & Mr. Henshaw
. . . . . . . . /obserued/ that noe mention was made of it in any Latin author
to haue been known to the Romanes.

A Letter from Mr. Leuwenhoek to Mr. Hooke who had translated the sense
of it into English was Read, giuing account of some further Discouerys of
his about the eelelike wormes in the seed of a Rat. as also of the motio[n]
of the Gills of museles oysters &c.

It was orderd that those should be examind the next Day in order to wch
Mr Hunt was to procure Some oysters & museles .

Dr. Gale Read a Letter to him from Dr. Bohn (procured by Mr. Haak) giuing
an account of some new anotomicall obseruations & Discourses.

The Dr. was Desired to answer his Letter and to Encourage him to continue
