March: 25. 1680.

Mr. Henshaw the viceprest tooke the chair.

Ionas More Esq. subscribed the ^/vsuall/ Engagement to the Society & was ad
=mitted.

Mr. Hooke Propounded Dr. Clench (Fellow of the Colledge of the
Physitians of London) a Candidate of this Society.

The minutes of the 18th. instant were Read.

vpon the mention of Sheathing of ships wth. Lead. Mr. Hunt gaue an account
that he had tinned some nayles iron nayles but sayd that it would not wholy
preserve them from rust. he was orderd to make tryalls of them and of
the other sheathing nayles wth. Vrine, Brine, viniger &c. - against
the next meeting.

vpon the mention of voyages to be collected the mapps of the magellan
straight It was Related that Sr. Iohn Narborows map thereof was
printed wherein some remarks of his therein were mentiond but
not all, for mr. Hooke Related that he had been informed by Capn.
Wood that vpon soundin in some parts of those streights wth. a 1000
fathom of Line he could find noe bottom.

The President came in and tooke the chair.

Dr. Crone Introduced Mor. Charras who presented the society with
a printed account of the obseruations of Dr. Io: Bap. Alprunus Physitian
to the Empresse Eleonora, intituled De Contagione Viennensi Experi
mentum medicum &c. together wth. a paper of his own conteining
. . . . his thoughts & animadversions therevpon. They were both
Read & the Society Returned him their thanks and Desired him if he
met wth. any other thing of that kind new he would commun
icate them to the Society, which he promised to Doe.

Dr. Crone Discoursed concerning the ferment of the Stomack &
sayd that It conteined a ferment and menstruum quite differing
from any other ferment whatsoeuer

Mr. Hooke was of opinion that a great cause of the effect of Disso
lution by the Stomack was caused by a continuall motion of
the Stomack whereby the food therein contained was continually
squeezed and churned whereby the concoctions Dissolutions or Digesti
ons were caused which wthout that motion could not be effected ei
=ther by the heat or menstruum of the stomack.

Dr. Crone obiected much against this supposall and sayd It did not
appear that the Stomack had any . . . . . motion, and that he con
ceiued It was rather caused by the Glandules of the Stomack & Gutts

The Account of the Expts. made on Tuesday last by the comtee. for that
purpose was brought in by Mr. Hooke and Read and therevpon the Pt
moued that against the next meeting mr. Hooke should make a
table of All the expert. of that kind he had Already tryd & Desig
