- Note 1: It appears that the date given on the
title was originally January 25th, Boyle's birthday, and a frequent start date
for his workdiaries. This would also explain why the year is given as 1688/9,
as during Boyle's time there was still confusion whether the new year began on
1 January or 25 March. However, the January date does appear to have been
altered later to September.
