<itunes:summary>In this podcast we take the listener on an atmospheric topographical walking tour of William Herle's Elizabethan London. Herle, an intelligencer, was frequently imprisoned in many of the City jails, often for debt, but also for larger, possibly political offences. We trace his journey from the Marshalsea prison to the Tower of London, during the Ridolphi Plot of 1571, while he was spying on other Catholic prisoners, and reporting back to the spymaster William Cecil, Lord Burghley.</itunes:summary>
