After studying History at Edinburgh, Ross moved to CELL to take the MRes. He is now in the second year of an AHRC-funded PhD, researching literary attacks by professional physicians such as John Cotta, James Hart, James Primerose and Edward Poeton on irregular and unlicensed medical practitioners during the early Stuart period- looking in particular at the religious concerns that motivated these works and the increasing permeability of the boundary between such 'anti-quack' literature and demonology.
