
Madeline Dewhurst gained her doctorate in July 2009. Her thesis, entitled‘“And make me famous too in such a wife”: How Margaret and William Cavendish negotiated the Interregnum’, re-contextualizes the Cavendishes, placing them within their social, political and familial framework during the period 1648-1660.
Her supervisors were Prof. Lisa Jardine and Dr. Jan Broadway. Her examiners were Prof. Sarah Hutton and Prof. Michael Questier.
Madeline also completed the MRes at CELL in 2004.
Madeline has previously worked as a journalist and editor and has also written two plays for children, both commissioned and performed by Galloglass Theatre Company, Ireland.
Madeline is currently teaching ‘Representing London: the 18th Century’ a 2nd year undergraduate course at Queen Mary. She is also an Associate Lecturer with the Open University. She has previously taught Seventeenth Century Literary Culture and Shakespeare courses at Queen Mary.
