Pictures from the CELL trip to Antwerp.
The annual CELL field trip to Antwerp is both an important part of the programme of study for CELL MRes students, and a celebration of the end of the taught part of the CELL MRes curriculum. At least two members of the CELL staff accompany the students, and there are plenty of opportunities for convivial eating and drinking, both along the way, and during the two day stay in Belgium.
The Plantin-Moretus museum in old Antwerp is a wonderfully well-conserved early modern printing and publishing works, with accompanying exhibits of early modern printed texts. Much of it is unchanged since the Plantin and Moretus families conducted their publishing business here, continuously, until the last member of the Moretus family sold the building and its contents to the city of Antwerp in 1876. It was first opened to the public a year later.
