the tanners of London (quere. Cesio tht brought this Letter presented 33 raritys) The Curator produced againa Large Conicall tin Receiuer for the magnifying of sounds which being tryed was found to make words
softly vtterd at a distance to be heard Distinctly, whereas they could not be soe heard without the
Instrument. The same produced a Muscle to shew how it consists of meer fibers or strings, lying
close together Longwise like the fibres of talk.
Ap: 23. 1668. The Expt. to shew that 2 mettalline bodys weigh more in Water where mixed than when
weighed both together Apart was put off the Beam of the Ballance not being well adiusted nor a set

& separate the parts of air, to know what there may be in it that may make it soe necessary for Respiration & said

Letter concerning the Expt. of preseruing the Dog aliue by the wind of Bellows and by keeping the Lungs distended
wth. fresh air though not moued. orderd that the Expt mentiond by the said Dr. seeming to him to disproue the
consequence deduced by mr Hooke from his Expt. should be made next day. the Curators for it being absent
and that the Oper: should speak to Dr. Lower & Dr King to take care of the expt. at that time.
mr Hooke proposd an Expt. to see whether the blood doth circulate when the Lungs are subsided he was
disired to cause it to be made before the Society. the same mentiond that it had been obserued that blood
though of a dark blackish colour would when exposed in the air become presently very florid and
that florid surface being taken off and the subiacent part exposed againe would acquire the like flo
ridnesse, and that therefore it might be worth the observing by expt. whether the blood when from
the Right ventricle of the heart it passeth into the Left coming out of the Lungs, it hath not that
tincture of floridnesse before it enters into the Great artery, which if it should haue it would
be an argument that some mixture of air wth. the blood in the Lungs might giue that floridnesse

The expt. in dr needhams letter) was orderd to be tryd first in priuate by Dr. King & mr Hook who agreed to meet for
that purpose on saturday next. and to giue an ccount of their sucesse next meeting)(Dr. wilkins presented

may. 14. 1668. Dr. King brought in this Account of the expt. orderd to be made by himself & mr Hooke in priuate
of filling the Lungs of a Dog full of air and keeping the same air wthout the admission of any fresh air.
It was desired the same persons would Repeat the Expt. & then let the Dog lye 2 or 3 minutes longer when they
should Iudge him as much dead as they did this time that the tryall might be beyond exception -
mr Hooke made an Expt. of Staticks to shew the penetration of liquors. first there was a ball of glasse
poisd in the air, weighing 302 1/2 graines. the same in fair water weighed 150 7/8 graines. in oyle
of vitriol. 24. gr. in an aequall mixture of oyle of vitriol & water 73 1/2 graines. Orderd that
a Full account be brought in writing by the Curator. (mr Boyle suggested mixtues of oyle of aniseed
& salet oyle. oyl of vitriol & SV. of & . and pretended he had made expts. of this kind formerly
