Then the Society went into the Gallery to see the Experiment prepared to shew the
Reason why the Ieddo of water doth not Rise vp to the height of the surface
of the water in the cisterne by which it was presst. though it is Euident that
the water issueth out of the hole with a velocity sufficient to carry it vp to that
height, and not with a velocity equall which is able to carry it but to half the height
as some haue imagined and asserted. And it was plainly exhibited by this Expert
that the ^ /ascending/ Streame of the ascendin water was considerably bigger at the top then at the
bottom whereby the velocity of the ascending water was much ^ /more/ impeded besides the
. . . then by its own naturall Grauity Singly considered. Of this the Discourse and fur
ther Examination was referred to the next meeting./
