Signr. Sarottj who was Elected December the 1st. was this Day
admitted he hauing first subscribed his name to the Engagmt

The minutes of Nouember 27 and December the 1st. were Read
and some matters thereof Debated.

mr. Henshaw alledged that Antimony by Calcining would in
crease in weight & he also Mentiond that mr Boyle had
found the same thing. It was therefore supposd that the grauity
of the composition of the tin and copper might be causd by addition
to it from the fire.
mr. Hooke alledged that the compositum did not weigh heauier
than the two Ingredients Ioyned together but Rather that the
said composition did weigh lighter than the ingredients together
did before the melting, by reason that some part of each of
them was wasted by the Heat, by but that the Specifick gra
uity of the Compositum exceeded the specifick grauity of the
two comp ioyned together as one compound Grauity, and not
only soe but the Specifick Grauity of the heauiest of
them. Besides he alledged that he had seuerall times calci
ned Antimony by the help of a Burning glasse and that
he had always found it to grow considerably lighter by such
calcination.

Upon Discourse concerning forrein Correspondence It was moued
and the Society Desired Mr Euelyn that he would Indeauour to
obteine from the Secretarys of State that the Society might
haue the fauour to send & Receiue their Letters to forreine
correspondents in the Packquets of the Secretarys as they for
merly had in the time of /whilst/ Sr. Ioseph williamson was Prin
cipall Secretary of State which mr. Euely Engaged to En
deauour. -
mr. Hooke produced & Read a Letter of mr Newton to him, of the 28
of nouember 1679. Giuing an account of his thoughts of mor. mallements
new hypothesis of the Heauens. and also suggesting an Experiment
whereby to find try whether the earth moued wth. a Diurnall motion or
not. to wit by the falling of a body from a considerable height which he
