Expts. of the acceleration of bodys in water were continued & there was taken a Round glasse
by shott putt into it made 1/4 heauier than water descending to the bottom in 4". 44'"
the same made half as heauy againe in 3". 14'". the same 3/4 as heauy againe in 2". 45'"
the same made as heauy againe in 2". 14'". these expts. were made seuerall times and
are here set down according to their quickest descent. orderd to be prosecuted

Common water salt water & of terpentine was Read, wherein he findes the sines
of the angle of Inclination to keep neer the same proportion to the sines of the angles
of Refractions, orderd to be entred together wth the Expt. about the Refraction of Spt
of wine and to prosecute this matter wth other Liquors. There was Read mr. Hookes
fuller account concerning the vipers teeth seen by the microscope transparent & hollow
together wth other Obseruations made of the Internall parts of this animall orderd to be
Registred (Dr. charlton to giue account of his Late dissection.) Mr. Hooke proposed an Expert
to be made vpon a Dog by Displaying his whole Thorax, to see how long by blowing
into his Lungs life might be preserued. and whether any thing could be discouerd concer
ning the mixture of the air wth the blood in the Lungs. orderd that the expt. be made between this
and the next meeting (Dr. merret. star shoot. not dissoluable by boyling in water) Dr. Ent was disird
to Dissect some vipers and froggs in a conuenient season, & Dr. Wilkins & mr Hooke to be pre
sent at the operation [ mr. Hooke was orderd to haue his new instrument for grinding optick
glasses ready for next day (
Nouember. 9th. 1664. Sr. Iohn Cutler hauing founded a Lecture and setled an annuall stipend
of 50 pounds as professor during his life, Entrusting the Society wth. the Direction and
care thereof, was Elected honorary member of the said Society, & Sr. William Petty
Dr Wilkins, Dr. Whistler, & mr. Grant, were appointed to attend him in the name of
the Society wth the following order. vpon Report made to this Society by Dr. whistler
that Sr. Iohn Cutler Knight & Baronet had declared his Resolution to bestow vpon mr
Robert Hooke during his Life an annuall stipend of 50ll fifty pounds to be paid half -
yearly hauing already aduanced the sum of twenty fiue pounds for the first half year
ending at Lady Day next in Consideration of which yearly stipend the said Sr Iohn Cutler
is willing to Referr it to the president Councell & fellows of the Royall Society of London
for Improuing naturall knowledge to Direct & appoint ^ /the said/ mr Hooke how many Lectures he
shall Read & when and vpon what subjects or what kind of Inquirys by way of Expt he
shall be Ingaged to prosecute. This Society doth herevpon Return their hearty thanks
to Sr. Iohn Cutler for this particular Fauour to a worthy member, and for that Respect
and Confidence he hath hereby Expresst towards their whole body and they doe likewise vna
miously agree to admitt the said Sr. Iohn Cutler an Honorary member of this Society to
haue the liberty of being present at their meeting when and as often as he pleaseth without
being obliged to any payments or other tasks. And Sr. Willm. Petty Dr. Wilkins Dr Whistler
& mr. Grant are hereby appointed to attend Sr. Iohn Cutler in the name of the Society and
to Represent to him what a sense they haue of his fauour which they haue the more Reason
to value as being the first Donation they haue been Entrusted wth of this kind, & which they hope will

proue a Leading examples to others.
