may. 29. 1679.

mr. Henshaw vice Pt. tooke the chair

mor. Pappin as he had been desired the Last Day by the Society
produced three Glasses of liquors made by his tryalls vpon
wheat Barly & malt Boyled after his new way to see
what effect It would haue on liquors, they were found
to be very strong tinctures of those substances but
being but small quatitys and not fermented Little
could be Determined concerning them

Then the minutes of may the 22d were read. wherevpon
mr. Henshaw produced a peice of the Harts horne wch
was soe very soft the Day before; Now hardned againe
to a very great hardnesse & very white, but vpon scra
=ping of it 'twas obserued to be much more brittle
then common harts horn the greatest part of the Gluti=
nous gum thereof hauing been fetcht out of it by
the Boyling. neuerthelesse It was supposed that the same
as also Iuory might be very vsefull in mechanicall
matters where by reason of its easinesse to be carued &
shaped when soft & its hardning againe soe quickly to soe
great a degree wth whitenesse (qy whether it may not be
Dyed into various colours when soe softned) or after it
is againe hardned)
mor. Pappin then produced some calues feet Dressed after the
same manner, which being examined were found to haue
the bones thereof softned as the Harts horn was the Last
Day, and the flesh thereof was not wthstanding very well
tasted and /as/ firme if as if Boyled the common way.
He was thanked for thanked for his Expts, and Desired to commu
nicate /___/ to the Society what further prosecution he made
of this his new Inuention.
