mr. Hooke tryed his expt. of Breaking a glasse drop Dipped in Ising glasse.
and tyed about wth. a peice of Leather but it not succeeding he was orderd to
try it againe at the next meeting. -
may. 25 1664. The magdeburg expt. being repeated it was found tht the propor
tion of the time of the waters running into the exhausted to that of its running into the glasse
filld with air was as 7 to 8: orderd to Exhaust it better for the next meeting.-

a Little cauity screwed close was tryed againe but without successe the powder finding
vent between the steel case and the screw. Orderd that mr. Hooke prouide the strongest

that it Liued though the air was compressed to a 4th. part of the space it filled before

The Expt. of compressing the air vpon a carps Bladder was tryed and it appeared
that one part of the Bladder was crushed by the compression of the air into 3/4 parts.
[mr. wild would not shew softning steel) The expt. of the mouse in compresst air was tryd
by putting the glasse in a pail of cold water, where the air being condensed into an -
eighth part the mouse remaind aliue & very well, hence it was inferred that a man
may breath vnder water at the Depth of 200 fathom if he can breath and liue
with as thick air as a mouse can doe [Dr. Cotton Loadstones. Tin oare. weighing aboue
and vnder ground. shining Dew.) mr. Boyle acquainting the company with his Recesse
into the country and being desired to bring in writing the Account he promised of the Pasca
lian Expts. before he retired made answer that he would Leaue this matter wth. mr Hooke
to prosecute the Expts. and to giue an account thereof. Orderd tht the Diuing Expt. be made
in the thames and that it be also made in a tub before the company, on wensday next for
which time the Diuer should be summoned to be there. (Dr. crone to Reuiue a choked chicken
Iune the 1st. 1664. The expt. of breaking a case of steel wth Gunpowder was repeated & there
was taken 2 1/2 peny weight of powder and put into the Little Cauity of the said Case
and the screw wrought into it as exactly as was possible. The euent was that the case being
heated, the powder brake a little hole through the bottom of it. the company conceiud
that the case was not wrought equally strong. orderd that it should be tryed againe the
next Day making the case as euen & strong as Could be mr. Hooke curator.
The magdeburg Expt was Repeated and the time of the waters running out of one glasse
into the other exhausted glasse being compared with that of the waters running out into
the glasse with intromitted air It was found by a minute watch that the time was as
2 minutes to 4. It was obserued also that the water ran out into the exhausted glasse
with very Little noyse and that the glasses being inverted soe as that the exhausted
one was beneath, and that which was full of water (freed also from air) aboue. there
ascended (to shew that always some air is remaining not wthstanding the carefullest
exhaustion) Large bubbles into the glase wth water. which bubbles were like flakes Rising
vp wth a smart motion (Croon choked & reuiued chicken). The Diuing expt. was tryed by sinking
the Leaded box wth. air in a tub & Letting the operator Respire the said air in the box
by a pipe his nose being kept all the while stopt, of his Drawing in the air of the
box which Lasted 4 minutes by a minute watch but might haue been continued

mr. Hook was orderd to bring in 2 or 3 good Expts the next Day.-
Iune the 8. 1664. - The powder expt. was tryed againe with a stronger case of steel
and the quantity of 2 1/2 penny weight in the small cauity the screw being very exactly put
in the Euent was that the case cracked in the vper side. the Screw remaining firm in its
place. Orderd to Repeat it next Day with a yet stronger case a lesse cauity & lesse powder
