mr. Henshaw the vice Prest. tooke the chair

The minutes of the 21th. were read stones produced the
last Day by mr. Henshaw being since polished were shewn to
the Society whereby it appeard that they were as hard and bore
as good a polish as agates, and that they had A very beauti
full variety of colours & spotts in them.

There was also a farther Discourse concerning some expedite
ways of cutting Drilling turning and polishing the said
stone into seuerall shapes for various vses -

mr. Hunt made report that hauing been to inquire after
the bookes Left at Arundell house, he was informed by Sr
Wm: Dugdale that tho/se/ bookes were in the Custody of mr
Burbery the D: of Norfolks Gentleman. Dr. Gale reportd
also that he had spoken wth. the same and that Sr. Wm. had
promised soe soon as he should Receiue the said bookes
to send the Coppy of Dooms Day booke to the society

The minutes of the 21th. Instant were read which gaue
occasion of Discoursing further concerning subterraneous
steames and fiery Damps -
Dr. Allen tooke notice that there was mention made in the
Trauells of mr. Ray of a burning fountaine in
Daulphine in France, which being set on fire would
burne very violently and would serue both to fry and
Rost meat & that the Inhabitants neer there about
made vse of it for that purpose -

This Gaue occasion to Discourse of Bituminous substances
mr Henshaw mentiond a Liquid that there was a kind
of Liquid Bitumen which swam vpon the mare mortuu
/this is mentiond in Tacitus/ -
He also obserued that Ambergrees seemd to be somewt. of tht.
nature for that It had been often found to flote on the
